Djarot: We Must Improve Consumer Protection in Jakarta

Jakarta Governor, Djarot Saiful Hidajat recognize the current consumer protection is not maximized because many products circulating in the community do not include information in accordance with provisions of Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) and only lull consumers with the advertising offered by the producers.

We can say today as National Victim Day because consumers often become victims by products that are not examined by BPOM

"We can say today as National Victim Day because consumers often become victims by products that are not examined by BPOM,"said Djarot, after attending 2015 National Consumer Day in Silang Monas, Tuesday (5/12).

City to Tightens Foods and Drugs Supervision

Djarot said, Although Jakarta Provincial Government regularly supervise the distribution of food through the Jakarta Cooperative Micro Small Medium Enterprises and Trade Department (KUMKMP), there still many product circulating in community does not specify the composition clearly and honestly even expired food still sold.

"The ads are often lulled and do not include the dangers or side effects of their products and consumed by children as the MSG and dyes," he said.

Despite periodic supervision, people are asked to participate. The Consumers can complain to the producer if you feel disadvantaged with the product.

"People should be able to complain if harmed by the producer. They could propose fines if eating products that could lead to obesity, certain pain, and so on," he said.
